Got Stress? We Got Help!

The term "stress" was first used by the endocrinologist Hans Selye in the 1930s to identify physiological responses in laboratory animals. He later broadened and popularized the concept to include the perceptions and responses of humans trying to adapt to the challenges of everyday life. In Selye's terminology, "stress" refers to the reaction of the organism, and "stressor" to the perceived threat.

Many families and individuals are feeling the stress of mounting bad financial news throughout the country, among their friends / family and sometimes within their own home.  The markets are making a natural correction by shedding unsubstantiated gains and excess brought about by poor choices.  Most all are being forced to reevaluate their circumstances, educate themselves on current/future events, lean up their operation if necessary and move forward.

When reflecting, researching and making the necessary life changes it is important to surround yourself with individuals and organizations that are positive, forward thinking and based in reality.  There are a few of these organizations and resources to help families and individuals which are referenced below.

Many have been helped by the saying “Replace worry with work and fear with faith,” which means faith is the best antidote for fear and worry is best replaced by work.  That is, working on educating oneself about their actual circumstances, opportunities and choices then creating and implementing a plan that has the right solutions to those circumstances is the best way to get rid the worry and fear that cause the stress.

May you find serenity and tranquility in a world you may not always understand. May the pain you have known and the conflict you have experienced give you the strength to walk through life facing each new situation with courage and optimism. Always know that there are those whose love and understanding will always be there, even when you feel most alone. May you discover enough goodness in others to believe in a world of peace. May a kind word, a reassuring touch, and a warm smile be yours every day of your life, and may you give these gifts as well as receive them. Remember the sunshine when the storm seems unending.

Teach love to those who hate, and let that love embrace you as you go out into the world. May the teachings of those you admire become part of you, so that you may call upon them. Remember, those whose lives you have touched and whose have touched yours are always a part of you, even if the encounters were less than you would have wished. It is the content of the encounter that is more important than the form.

When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us.

- Alexander Graham Bell

When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds; your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be.

- Patanjali
